chinese

Why are universities so strict about languages? Maybe it’s only SFU, but the Chinese teacher has the 100 class on lockdown. Perhaps its the large percentage of Chinese cats in Vancouver, I dunno, but he pretty much boots out any kid who is Chinese. There were a handful of ABCs (American born Chinese) that registered for the class that got the boot. What the hell, just because their parents are Chinese doesn’t mean they can speak it themselves (and I know for a fact that those people could not write). It doesn’t make any sense why they would have to register for a 200 level class because they have a “background” in Chinese. I can see the merit of such a system to weed out anyone who is just taking the class for easy credits, but where do you draw the line? How does the teacher know that the student won’t be completely bogged in a 200 class? There’s plenty of cats in my 165 CMPT HTML class that probably know more about coding than the prof, why don’t they get weeded out too…
